BLIND WALLS GALLERY

What do you do when you find out that an awesome creative organisation 1) celebrates its five year anniversary, 2) has created over 100 artworks in a city you’ve never been before, 3) uses public art in a unique way of storytelling? Indeed: you travel all the way to Breda and take a look at what this organisation did realise!

Since 2015, Blind Walls Gallery has created an immense gallery throughout the city of Breda. Meaningful murals that are all inspired by events or stories from the history, present day or future of this city: the ‘lost sketches of Vincent van Gogh’, the heroic behaviour of the forgotten mayor Godevaert Montens or some other amazing events that happened in Breda. Hidden stories come to live with the use of murals.

Before an artist creates a mural, the team of Blind Walls Gallery researches the area. They start digging to find the most inspiring story to base the murals on. By doing this, the organisation ensures that every mural is more than just a pretty picture and turns out to be a piece of art that is connected to the place and the city.

Our Favourites:

Artwork by Twee Muizen.

Twee Muizen: a duo of artists composed by Cristina Barrientos and Denis Galocha. The name of this duo means “two mice” in Dutch. The two artists studied Art and Fashion Design. In between art and design, their artwork takes the form of illustrations, paintings as well as objects created with a variety of different materials. In their work, the artists juggle between innocence and satire. Twee Muizen take a critical stance towards our world, and they do so with a lot of humor.

Artwork by Fin Dac.

Fin Dac is an artist from Ireland who is fascinated by Asian mystic and mysterious beauty. With a keen eye on details, he has a real aesthetic style that make him different from other urban artists. On the artistic scene since 2008, he gets his influence from dark and graphic novels from Francis Bacon or Audrey Beardsley. Fin Dac works with stencils and a specific painting leaving the impression of spatters with pop colors around the eyes, just like a mask.

Artwork by Zenk One.

Zenk One’s work consists of illustrations, murals, paintings and graphic design. His illustrations are recognizable by the smooth and flowing ‘realistic’ line drawings with a graphic touch. Sometimes he combines this style with photorealistic elements made with a spraycan, the tool where it all started with 20 years ago.

Artwork by Rutger Termohlen, Collin van der Sluijs & Super A.

Super A is the alter ego of Dutch artist Stefan Thelen. After graduating from the Graphic Lyceum in Rotterdam, he evolved as an artist. Super A often paints realistic images and fantasy figures, whether or not combined with a social message. He also creates sculptures, installations and sometimes collaborates with other artists.

Collin van der Sluijs is a painter and illustrator from Maastricht, The Netherlands. He is widely recognized for his extraordinary dream-like depictions of everyday stories that question our personal pleasures and struggles, as well as society at large.
