A new piece of art is created at the NDSM dockyards,on the northern bank of the IJ-river.
Under particular Dutch climatical circumstances (sun, rain, wind) a painting has been added to this Street Art and Graffiti area in the North part of Amsterdam.
Close to the tremendous Street Art portrait of Anne Frank, painted by Street Art legend Eduardo Kobra, a portrait of the current mayor of the city, Eberhard van der Laan has been added.
Eberhard van der Laan, born 28th of June 1955, is a Dutch politician and former lawyer. Since 7th July 2010 he is the current mayor of the city of Amsterdam (The Netherlands). After graduating cum laude in 1983 at the VU (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) he has fulfilled several positions at political level, finishing finally as a minister in 2010.Since then he is fulfilling with great success the position as mayor from Amsterdam. In 2013 he is awarded with the Machiavelli-award, an appreciation for a person who excellerates in communication between government, politics and bourgeoisie.
The qualification; Mister van der Laan is a role model in explicitness in an administrative world where many persons flee in inoffensive conversations.
At the 18th of September 2017 he stepped back from active duties, because of terminal illness. A couple of days later he has been awarded the Gold Medal of the City of Amsterdam. The medals inscription; ‘Alles voor de Stad’ (Everything for the City), his own slogan.
The Street Art as mentioned, located at the NDSM dockyard has been made by TelmoMiel, or actually the ‘Miel’ part of the artists. In a little more than one day (29th & 30th of September 2017) the artist created a double portrait.
TelmoMiel is a creative pair of artists, Telmo Pieper and Miel Krutzmann. They both studied at the Willem de Kooning Academy (Rotterdam, The Netherlands) where they studied in the period 2006/2010. Since 2007 they combine their skills, by creating impressive murals and paintings. Their individual styles combine very fine together. Also see: https://nl-nl.facebook.com/TelmoMiel/
It is not the first expression of appreciation by a Street Art Artist collective. Earlier this year (February) ‘Kamp Seedorf’ created a fullscale portrait in the ‘Wibautstraat’ in Amsterdam. The Artists Collective includes different draftmen, all fervent soccer-fans (Ajax) with a graffiti past. All artists-identities are currently anonymous. Based on all kind of different expressions of appreciation, Mr van der Laan earned the highest reward a person can get; the respect, empathy and compassion from the people he has been representing, the population of the city of Amsterdam.
